Paper Shoes by Civic Duty
After doing our groceries at Banilad Town Center, we went around looking at the shops. I went to playpen while Mc went to wonder at Republiq. This weird-looking but colorful shoes somehow caught his attention. Weird-looking because it looks like crumpled paper. Colorful because it has a bright but matte feel on the colors. It comes in yellow (my favorite), purple, pink (my other favorite hehe), green, sky blue colors among many others. When he came inside and touched it, it indeed felt like paper but also felt not like it because it felt strong. I too was curious as he introduced it to me. A paper for shoes? What mockery?! Our feet is probably the most abused part of our body. Therefore, our feet needs strong and comfortable shoes to protect them. What if it rains? Will the shoes tear out? I was furious and puzzled! It was very good that Republiq had reading materials you can browse into. As I began reading, my confusion changed to wonder.
The shoes is a product of Civic Duty. The brand was born on 2009 so it's a relatively new product. The material is made of Tyvek(c) paper. It is the same material used in FedEx envelopes. Even when it's paper, Civic Duty claims the shoes is waterproof and durable. I love the colorful designs Civic Duty has for their shoes too.
When I went home, I started researching about the paper shoes. I found how inspiring the story of Civic Duty is with his legacy, Conspire to Inspire. Every year he choses a design of shoe. For that whole year, 100% of the profits of sale of that chosen shoe design goes to a cause. Immediately, I felt a connection. The shoes is creative, unique, and unselfish. It is a product with a heart.
I especially love the Seasonal Collection. See them here. The recreation collection is available in Republiq.
Last Tuesday, we came back and bought a pair of fascination collection. Mc took the sky blue pair. He debuted it at his company's party. Sky blue color went well with his 80s attire. The blurry picture in the post is Mc's new shoes. He was looking fly! ^_^
I am so fascinated by it that I talked a lot about this shoe to some friends and colleagues. I went back again yesterday to accompany my best buddy buy a pair for her brother. Yey! I am sure he will love it.
You know what else I discovered? Marc Nelson is one step ahead of us. A few weeks ago, he released Instagram photos of his feet wearing paper shoes. I took a screenshot of it and posted here. Darn!... and I thought I discovered it. Hahaha
I agree with Civic Duty's aggressive claim. Soon, everyone will be wearing crumpled paper!
So What are you waiting for? Get a pair while it is still affordable.
